Finally got the site up and running. Right now it’s a pretty simple site that allows users to post snippets of news they find interesting and that they would like to share. If theres something you would like to see, something you don’t like or even something u just love about the site 🙂  drop me a line and lemme know…

Need some? goto http://www.famfamfam.com/. Maybe I should put some of those icons on greenknob. Hmmm….

If you are into avtars and shit, check out http://en.gravatar.com/. A super easy way to upload one profile pic or avtar and link to it..well…from just about anywhere.

For the evnts page, rather than manually entering events that were mailed to me, I hooked into the eventbrite API and pulled out all ‘green’ events. You can check out their API at http://www.eventbrite.com/api

The other day I was at safeway and after checkout I got a long paper bill which I promptly trashed. And that got me thinking, what if I could automate the sending of that bill from the POS(Point of Sale) to my email. or better still to a website wherein I could log in and see all these eBills which I don’t really care about. Was pretty sure that I had thought up of something really original. Came back home, did a quick google search…and lo and behold… the damn thing is already implemented !!!! There is a company out in FL or someplace that has actually set up a system that hooks up to a number of POS systems to send you electronic receipts…So much for that…though that company sure does need a new marketing team 🙂

Not bad for a weekend project 🙂

Was receiving quite a few emails from folks about ‘green/sustainable’ events around the place. So decided to add a simple events listing on the home page. You can view events at http://www.greenknob.com/events/. Currently it’s a manual process but will add a django form here to take care of event submissions etc at some time.

Was totally jobless last weekend and hooked up this simple app that let’s people share ideas and tips on ways to do things green. Just send a msg to @greenknob SWIG: i.e. reply to greenknob followed by the characters SWIG: That’s it!!! An extremely simple app. Would be interesting to see the different replies we get here…

Just automated the posting of all new posts to twitter via the twitter API. A very neat and easy to use API..go check it out at http://apiwiki.twitter.com/

Have made a few changes to the site… now it has become more of a content aggregator from various ‘green’ sites. This gives me an easy way to read all the articles i am interested in from one place. Users can still submit content just as before…if you come across any site with great content (and an RSS feed ofcourse!!!) that you would like to see on greenknob, drop me a line with the link.

later…

On a break for a month and a half or so… so will not be posting for a while… when I get back in Feb 09 will think up of some new features to work on… have a happy and safe 09….
